Vibe Rehab
Have a vibe-coded product or service that you want to turn into a real, scalable application? That's what our Vibe rehab service is about.
Have a vibe-coded product or service that you want to turn into a real, scalable application? That's what our Vibe rehab service is about.
This service is for when you have a product that looks and functions the way (or most of the way) that you want but needs help from the availability, scalability and reliability side to eliminate user-facing bugs and hold up under real-world usage.
This is not for cases where there's still a lot of UX unknowns - the AI Prototype service is targeted at that.
The Approaches
I'll go through a defined process that views the existing vibe-coded app as the specification (minus a feature or two) for the project, then review the underlying code to understand the scope of the refactor needed. I'll propose one of two approaches:
- In-place refactor. If the core of the app is built in a way that just needs a bit of an improvement on its security posture and some tweaks to the architecture (query patterns, database indexes, API consolidation, that sort of thing) then I'll propose an in-place refactor.
- Black-box rewrite. If the architectural core is a bit of a big ball of mud with no defined patterns or consistent approach, I'll suggest a black box rewrite that uses the behavior of the existing app as the spec, but leaves the code and data model behind.
Included in both approaches will be a full test suite and a set of Agent skills and instruction files to make continuing to develop the product using an AI Assisted development approach practical.
The Process
- We'll do a 30-minute (free) intro call to get an understanding of the project. If we both decide that project is a good fit, we'll sign a mutual NDA and schedule time for me to dig into the existing project.
- I'll budget a few hours to review the existing project, using AI assistance to dig into architecture, security, scalability and overall design patterns. This will take a few hours billed at our normal rate. The outcome will be an evaluation and proposal document for next steps. The proposal will include an estimated hour range for the work that needs to be done. If an in-place refactor is viable, then there are likely intermediate deliverables (usually in the order of test suite, architecture refactor, security refactor, patterns refactor and front-end refactor) that can be phased one at a time.
- We'll schedule a time slot for the work. I focus on one project at a time and usually give myself buffer. The work is billed by the hour, and must be paid per deliverable accepted. At any point, you are welcome to pull the plug on the project if you don't believe it to be worthwhile and you'll only be on the hook up to the previous accepted deliverable.
FAQ
Can I get a fixed quote for this work?
Unfortunately refactoring work has too many unknowns for me to provide a fixed quote. I'll provide hour range estimates and communicate frequently with how the work is matching to those estimates.
What if I'm not satisfied?
We offer a full money back guarantee up to the point where a deliverable is accepted. Once we hand the code over, you're on the hook for that work. This keeps both sides honest. We require payment promptly to continue working. This is all spelled out in a short and clear contract.
